The Town of Wasaga Beach wants the world to know it is Open For Business!
In November of 2007 there was a fire in one area of the Main End of the Beach. It was a big fire and it attracted media attention. Unfortunately, the stories that accompanied the pictures of the fire were more spectacular in scope than the fire itself.
Not one single accommodation burned in the fire. In fact, all of the buildings along the beachfront were untouched and are open for business.
Many people have the misguided notion that the entire Beach burned to the ground. This is not the case. A number of wooden structures in What is known as the Pedestrian Mall were lost. These were older stores used for seasonal businesses. The local and regional firefighters did a tremendous job of containing the fire to this one location.
In early April of 2008, there was a flood in Wasaga Beach which again made the newspapers and other media. In truth, there were a number of flooded basements and washed-out roads - no worse than many areas experience each spring. It just happened to occur within five months of the fire.
The good news is that the fire was put out within one day, the water is back in Nottawasaga Bay, and Wasaga Beach is moving forward to provide residents and visitors with a better experience than ever.
